Dirty 30!

Last week was my fiancĂ©e's birthday, he turned the big Three O! :)

I wanted to create him a birthday cake naturally! and this was the first cake I've completed from him in complete surprise! Hidden away behind closed cake room doors!
His only request was it had to be his favourite flavour banana cake with a milk chocolate ganache. Yum!

I had a couple of  different ideas for designs:   a pair of sneakers, loads of his favourite foods piled up. But in the end I went with a banana split cake!

Everything is edible, the whip cream is just royal icing topped with a cute fondant cherry!
The owner of the restaurant we celebrated at had a worry when he came into the restaurant kitchen to see the "icecream" not in the freezer! :) teehee tricked them!

Heres a tiny picture of my partner cutting his cake with me watching on :)

Mother's Day!

This past weekend was mother's day and I wanted to be clever and give my mum "flowers" so I created this carrot cake with white chocolate cheesecake flavoured ganache to look like a potted orchid plant.

The bamboo orchids are all handmade sugar flowers. Everything is edible down to the cookie crumb dirt which my nephew happily dug into.

Sydney Bridal Exhibition!

Okay so its been a disgustingly long time since I made a post even though it feels like the last one wasn't that long ago, guess I've been somewhat occupied.
The most exciting news first! This past weekend I exhibited in my first bridal expo, the Sydney Bridal Expo at Darling Harbour. Totally nervous, feeling completely under prepared ended up having a really fantastic time chatting to couples about there big day!
Here are a couple of photos of my little booth, we gave out free samples of Chocolate Mud cake and Carrot Cake, along with little baggies with some info inside.

Hiphop Vinyls Cake

Just a quick one I did a few weeks back now for a friend's birthday.

My first time I have gotten to create a wood effect base board out of fondant! It was heaps of fun and super effective so now I'm looking for every excuse to keep doing it.

Mr Higgins!

This past long weekend I went to a course at Whimsical Cakehouse and completed a course with Kaysie Lackey from The Peoples Cake.

We created "Mr Higgins" the butler cake!

After 3 very long days! (8am - 5pm) and going through up and down emotions with Mr Higgins I can safely say I am in love with him.

Kaysie is an amazing artist and it was a fantastic experience to be able to learn from her.

Noxus Noms - Cottontail Teemo!

Hey everyone, its another competition cake, yay!
It's no secret I'm a bit of a gamer girl and quite enjoy spending my time playing some video game (while I'm not making cakes of course!) So making cakes related to gaming is always super fun.

So this cake I created for the "Noxus Noms" League of Legends food competition.
I decided to create a Cottontail Teemo as he's super cute and I wanted a bit of a challenge in making him stand up.
His is sculpted all from carrot cake and is supported with one central dowel, he is then covered in a white chocolate ganache and covered in a thin layer of fondant which has been texture and coloured.

ITS A FAKE!

Well its not really a fake technically hehe its my cake version of the famous Hermes Birkin bag.
These bags retail from $9000 to $150,000 and can have a waiting list of up to 5 years!

So a cake version I think is a lovely sweet option for those of us that aren't lucky enough to own the real thing!

Blue Sugar Orchids engagement

This cake was designed base on the invitations to the engagement party.
I took inspiration in the colours and swirl patterns and incorporated the birds in the stencil around the base of the cake.
I think its a really nice example of how you can reinforce a colour scheme or theme in your event.
The design was completed with some handmade sugar orchids.
